Greetings all,
Since I'm working on the claim for the Windsports Society, Gary requested
that I look into the process that you, as individuals, will need to complete
in order to make your oil damage related claim.
What is required is for you to write down the following:
- details of the claim - who, what, why, where and when
- some justification for the loss in value of the item(s) claimed for
- and any mitigation efforts made by you
You will need to be in touch with:

He is not a lawyer, more of an insurance adjuster. Be very conscious
that he is not 'on your side' as his job is to minimize your claim.
The society is up against the same wall.
He will undoubtedly nickel and dime every claim so make your info very
detailed. Official quotes from a shop(s) would be the way to go. My own
thoughts are that you may want to consult a lawyer for advice, if you have a
cheap way to do so.
Expect the representative to try reducing your claim amount down by
asking all kinds of (ridiculous?) questions like:
- how has (or will) the oil affect the performance of your equipment.
- what have you done to try to remove the oil yourself?
Remember that stains may eat away at the kite and will certainly affect
the items' resale value.
Obviously for 'pain and suffering' type compensation, you'll want to
consult a lawyer. I am not a lawyer so don't take my email as such. Just
passing along some hopefully useful info based on my conversations with Roger.
Good luck and go for it like you would a kite loop or the windsurfing
equivalent!
:)
